Pittsburgh Pirates legend Roberto Clemente looms large in this 1968 Sports Illustrated poster, sealed in original wrap with cardboard backer. Among the earlier SI posters, this incredibly rare treasure sees the graceful Pirates star focused on crushing an impending pitch, in a scene that can only be described as classic. This 24x36 poster presents very handsomely, however upon close inspection a few pinholes are noted along the top edge, indicating it was likely on display as a cherished prize at some time. There are also minor dings on the corners and a crease at the top right corner which is inconsequentual to display and otherwise this amazingly well-preserved poster is vastly appealing. Printed provenance at bottom left reads "Photographer Malcolm Emmons © 1968 M.L.B.P.A. Licensee Renselaar Corp. T/A Major League Posters Box 526, Norristown, PA. 19404". An "April House" promo sheet located in back states a price of "$3.00" and cites this poster as coming from a series titled "Sports Action". While any SI poster from the late 1960s can be considered tough, finding one of the few remaining examples that is still wrapped is a difficult task on par with the "Labors of Hercules".
