As Jorge Pascual built up the Mexican League and enticed Major League players with handsome salaries, Babe Ruth spent two weeks as his guest in May, 1946. Right at home in the foreign setting, Ruth golfed, saw a bullfight, got sunburn, took batting practice – and re-united with Cuban-born Armando Marsans, a former St. Louis Browns outfielder who had faced Ruth some thirty years earlier while he pitched for the Red Sox. During that relaxing sojourn, Ruth composed and sent this postcard to a friend in New York. The standard size postcard features a colorful animated portrayal of a bullfight. Postmarked “1946 20 MAY,” the reverse is composed entirely in Ruth’s hand. In black-ink steel tip fountain pen, Ruth writes: “Hello Russ – Great Country good weather good golf but no bowling – Regards to all (signed) Babe.” The endorsement projects (“10”) potency and, while limited to his first name only, is one of the boldest Ruth pennings you’ll ever behold. Accompanying is a full photo LOA from JSA.
