A superstar in the making is seen in this fantastic early career photo of Pittsburgh Pirates great Roberto Clemente, who made his first appearance in a "Bucs" uniform in 1955. One of the most revered figures in baseball history, Clemente related memorabilia remains in high demand as we close in on the fifty year mark since his untimely demise in a plane crash on the final day of 1972, while on a relief mission to Nicaragua. Obviously pleased to be in the Majors, Clemente is all smiles in this dynamic 4x5 original Type I photo taken by William Jacobellis c.1955-1956. A small corner crease at bottom left and minor touches of wear on the corners force a (VG-EX) rating for this black-bordered photo, though otherwise it is very pleasing. Full photo LOA from PSA/DNA.
