The pure value here is of course more in the two NFL player contracts—first, a 1953 Giants contract signed by MacAfee, Commissioner Bert Bell and Giants executive Wellington Mara (EX); and second, a 1959 Redskins contract signed by MacAfee, commissioner Austin Gunsel and Redskins coach Mike Nixon (GD w/clean signature area). However, in terms of historical value and entertainment value, it's hard to beat MacAfee's cache of 23 handwritten signed letters (on Giants stationery in signed Giants mailing envelopes) to his wife from rookie-season training camp, in which he provides a rare, fascinating, fly-on-the-wall account of preseason NFL life in the postwar era. Signatures average "8-9" strength. Also accompanied by an unsigned "Excerpts from By-Laws" document. Auction LOA from JSA.
